Fat Apollo, Michael McCluskey, is a mixture of all things geeky and nerdy rolled up in a crunchy comedic shell. Donning Everlast boxing gloves, as well as a cape and shirt made of vintage Battlestar Galactica bed sheets (circa 1977) – Fat Apollo is a true multi-media juggernaut. Fat Apollo was the first to harness the raw sexuality of geek culture, and has, thrice, been voted “Sexiest Person in Halifax”, ending Ellen Page’s undefeated seven-year run, as well as 2nd most Halifamous Celebrity and Best Local Character by readers of The Coast magazine for four straight years. He is also the winner of the Halifamous Chocolate Bar competition at “Sugah!” leading to the creation of the Fat Apollo Candy Bar. The showbiz bug bit early with a stint as a Buster Brown shoe model, and appearances on the Reach for the Top teen show. Fat Apollo really made his mark in Victoria BC, as the special guest morning-man replacement on Q100.3 launching the briefly popular, guess that tune game, The Kazoo Monster. He was the stand-by contestant on the 1st season of Canadian Big Brother and is best buddies with Andrew Monaghan ( the G is silent, but his good looks aren’t) who placed 4th. His feature film work features critical, but blink and you’ll miss them, background roles in, Look Who’s Talking, Here’s to Life, and Stephan King’s Needful Things. He was almost in the X- Files, but had to settle for travelling in a tiny floatplane with David Duchovny on the day he proposed to Tea Leone. Tea rejected Fat Apollo for David. Now residing in his hometown of Halifax, Fat Apollo MC’s and hosts conventions throughout the Atlantic Provinces, including panels with, his idol, Richard Hatch, Eugene Simons, Connor Trinneer, and many others His one-man show “Storytime with Fat Apollo” is a hit at Sci-Fi conventions across Canada, and he lives on Twitter @realfatapollo
Brute Squad Cosplay
Comic books, superheroes, movies, and acting have been a major part of André’s life since he was a child. His love of personifying characters never faded, but as an adult Halloween became his only opportunity to “play dress-up” until the Spring of 2018 when he attended his first convention. André chose Bane from the movie Dark Knight Rises for his first official convention cosplay, and although he didn’t win any awards, he definitely turned some heads and was invited to participate in meet and greets with more experienced cosplayers.
He soon began cosplaying at library events, Growlers hockey games, and any event he could get to. André learned as much as he could from his new cosplay friends and eventually organized a Superhero visit to the Janeway.
André soon added more characters to his roster, including The Punisher, Jason Voorhees, V (from V for Vendetta), and Thor. Although fairly new to this art form, André’s attention to detail, the study of characterization, and eagerness to learn have allowed him to become involved with Sci-Fi on the Rock, NL Horror Con, and now Atlanti-Con. André’s cosplay efforts are now represented under his aptly named “Brute Squad Cosplay”.

Ellen Curtis was born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Her aptitude for the written word began at a young age when she began filling paper with stories and other scribbles. Those scribbles eventually began to make more sense, and in 2008 she published her first collection of short stories. Since then, she has gone on to co-author the Infinity series with Matthew LeDrew, among her other literary endeavours.
Ellen earned her Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2015 and was under the illusion that completing her studies would mean she would have more free time. In reality, it simply means she does more reading, albeit for work. When she actually does find a spare moment, she enjoys spending time near the ocean nursing an espresso and daydreaming about the day she can fill her home with the happy bleating of Pygmy goats.
